A handsome Victorian house originally constructed in 1870, it had changed ownership just three times and had lain empty for almost three years when its owners enlisted Tamsin to help restore and extend the house and decorate and furnish its interior. The clients had recently moved back from having lived abroad, so were starting almost from scratch and asked Tamsin to help them create a home which would feel lived-in and loved from the outset.
The house had plenty of period charm, with large reception rooms and Victorian sash windows, so it was a matter of ornamenting further what was already there. Guided by the building’s architecture, Tamsin reconfigured the layout of the ground floor and extended to the rear to create a series of rooms opening off a large central panelled hall with views out onto the large south-facing garden. Original features were kept and restored, including the original staircase, floor, cornicing and chimneypieces throughout the ground floor.
Tamsin oversaw the whole process, including designing all the joinery. She sourced art, antiques and sumptuous textiles to inject warmth, character and colour and give the house an established, comfortable feel.
"Designer Tamsin Saunders set out to make the most of the plentiful Victorian details in this south London home, using nature-inspired colours for a sense of connection with the garden and layering in characterful objects to bring harmony to each room."
